Highway Safety Grant Programs
The Old Town Police Department participates annually in grant programs funded by the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety. These include Impaired Driving Details and Roadblocks, Seatbelt Enforcement Details and Speed Enforcement Details. The goal of each program is to reduce deaths, injuries and property damage resulting from traffic crashes.
Officers make traffic stops, issue citations or warnings and make arrests as the situation warrants. Although these violations are enforced during a normal shift, the grant programs allow officers to be specifically detailed while other officers handle calls for service.
When approaching a roadblock, please approach slowly and stop when directed. An officer will greet you and explain the purpose of the event. Officers attempt to minimize the time that drivers are detained as much as possible.
