Purpose of K-9 program: To serve the public by deterring and detecting narcotics in the community and the surrounding areas, to track suspects and/or missing persons and to search for evidence of crimes.  The K-9 team is routinely used to detect narcotics on traffic stops and is utilized by various agencies to assist in tracking suspects who have fled on foot.

Officer Bio: Serving in law enforcement since 1996, Penobscot Nation PD, Orono PD and currently with Old Town PD. 

Certifications include K-9 Handler,  G.R.E.A.T. (Gang, Resistance, Education And Training) Officer, Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer, Bike Patrol Officer.

Breed and age of dog: Belgian Malinois, bilingual French and English, born in 2001.

Years of service: November 2003-present

 

The K-9 Team

Type and length of training: Narcotics 320 hours, Tracking/Article Search 280 hours, Maintain 8 hours per month in each discipline.

Community Service: Public speaking engagements and demonstrations, school presentations, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other community groups.
